The Sad State of Interracial Blogs

I was curious about the state of interracial blogs in the blogosphere, so of course, I tried to Google the term. Geez, was that a mistake! I couldn't even attempt to click on any of the links because they were all porn, all the time.

That was disappointing.

I know there are blogs from interracial couples and families and biracial/multiracial people but they are few and far between. I have recently spent some time cruising Blog Explosion and while there's a wealth of political and personal blogs, religious and anti-religious blogs, sports and financial blogs, there just aren't too many interracial blogs.

So we earn our name a little longer: Interrace Haven. We still discuss topics from the point of view of someone in an interracial marriage with biracial kids. Sometimes "slice-of-life," sometimes comedy, sometimes serious and sometimes spiritual, but one way or the other, it's IR Haven, all the time.

If you know of some good IR blogs out there, I'd love to check them out! Send me link suggestions HERE!

Best Wishes,
Allen

The problem is that we are often targets and to have one's status identified by race on the internet is bound to lead to some ugly stuff coming out of the woodwork.
I have only been blogging for 3 months and today was the first time I had someone come into my "home" and attempt to descecrate it...It is for that very reason I don't post pictures of my children. I don't know if I am strong enough to withstand the cloak of anonymity some of these bozos like to hide behind.

I understand. I have faced those types of individuals before. In the late 90s, I even had the displeasure of being subscribed against my will to a hate group mailing list, in which I got to see their thinking. I reported them to their ISP and got myself unsubscribed by their group leader - this was before automated group mailing list, back in the majordomo days.

I have seen their websites and their artwork and their texts. There is no point in debating with such people, their minds are made up.

Do I worry for my children? Sometimes. But I don't live in fear of others, either. I am proud of my family. The balance is, I'm not going to give my direct contact info out on the internet.

I won't give the anonymous ones the satisfaction of me living in fear, because that's what they want.

Everyone needs to be careful these days about how much they allow their children to be shown on a blog. There are so many creeps in the world who get all kinds of perverse pleasures out of such innocent little ones. You need to be very carefull not to divulge more personal information than you mean to over a period of time.

Not long ago, I wrote to a blogger to point out to him that a photo he had online clearly showed his house number. On another post he had mentioned the city he lived in, and on another he'd revealed his last name. Just to prove the point I was trying to make, I looked up his phone number. Because his little boy was autistic, and I had found out exactly where they lived without any trouble at all, he was leaving that child in danger of all kinds of evil. He edited the posts and the photo.
